I'd Secretly Like to Be a Farmer
03 Sep 2016Princess Kate revealed her true calling on Thursday.
Speaking to 15-year-old Bea Hodge of the local group Wadebridge Young Farmers, the royal mom said she wants to encourage 3-year-old Prince George and 1-year-old Princess Charlotte to learn the land at the family's country home in Norfolk.
"She said she was teaching George and Charlotte all about the farm at Sandringham," Hodge told reporters. "She's been teaching George the difference between barley and wheat and everything they grow on the farm there. "She wants the children to learn all about farming and the apples in their orchard. She said she'd secretly like to be a young farmer. And she said they'd really enjoyed all the cider today!"
The exchange happened during the royal couple's visit to Newquay's Towan Beach, part of their day-long tour of Cornwall on Thursday. Earlier, Kate and Prince William met some frisky locals and sampled some (strong!) locally distilled whiskey.
In Towan Beach, the pair saw the work of the Wave Project, which uses surfing to reduce anxiety and improve wellbeing in children. Jane Leadbetter, Mayoress of Newquay, spoke to Kate about George and Charlotte to the beach there. "She said they would love it here, they do bring them down to Cornwall. They surf themselves," Leadbetter told reporters.
Her husband Carl Leadbetter, Mayor of Newquay, said, "We talked about surfing. The prince said he loves to surf and is hoping to do some." William told children and volunteers on the beach: "We should have brought our wetsuits – I'm very jealous! Living by the beach is just perfect."
